Lovely and informative tour of Italian market in Philadelphia

Nicole was our tour guide through the Italian market in Philadelphia The tour began walking through narrow streets looking at and learning about mosaics and murals we then continued our stroll and stopped at an historic bakery , cheese , olive oil and other shops with some small but wonderful tastings Nicole was extremely pleasant ,and informative . We were visitors but touring with our cousins who have lived in the city for years and are quite informed about Philadelphia history. Yet even they learned some new facts and enjoyed the experience very much Very enjoyable morning and highly recommend

Loved this tour!

We had wanted to do a food tour while in Philly, but they were all booked up. We ended up going with this tour, and it was really wonderful! We learned about the history of the area, some of the local artists, toured the residential areas as well as several of the shops in the market. Even though it is not considered a food tour, we did get several small tastes along the way! Annett was a wonderful, knowledgeable, entertaining guide who knows the area well. Would definitely recommend this tour while in Philly, my husband, son & I thoroughly enjoyed it!!

Best Tour of 9th Street Italian Market

Nina, our guide, was the best. Not only did we walk ninth street but along the way we learned the history of the area, the stores and some artists. A stop in the shops turned out to be heaven with the smell of the cheese, pasta, pastry and the welcome of the shop owners made us all feel as we were part of their family. Needless the tastings brought us back to buy up as much as we could to bring home. I would do it again and bring more friends.

Getting to know the Italian History of Foods in Philly

, Oct 2019
This was a good food tour. It included a lot of the history of a section of Philadelphia, somewhat off the beaten path. The food that we tasted was really good, although don't think of it as replacing your lunch or dinner. They were very small tastings. I would recommend it because it really exposes you to a different side of Philadelphia.

The walk of Italy

Our guide Annette is herself an immigrant from Germany which was a great benefit in that she could see things with fresh eyes. The shop owners and employees that she interacted with are very friendly towards her and her customers. Annette was informative in the background story area of the tour. Highly recommend the tour.

I guess I'm just used to 'samples' from other tours through Viator as being a sample from each place and not me having to purchase a 'sample'. The guide was very knowledgeable about the area and being a history buff, I did enjoy that part but felt for what I paid 'samples' should have been a part of this. Not only were they not a part of the tour ok, the bread at the very start was, a loaf of bread that everyone touched and shared but IF you wanted something to purchase, there were lines every where to stand and wait in. Not wanting to hold up the group, we ended up not purchasing no one else was and not getting to try the fare. Next time I've learned that I'l have to ask before signing up for a 'eating' tour again, I've done many 'eating tours' through Viator and this is the 1st that did not hold up to what they claimed.

This was one of the very best guided tours I have ever taken. Our guide, Ariel, was an encyclopedia of knowledge of the area. She was exceptionally personable, she knew so many of the vendors, and she made the tour highly personal. You could not go wrong taking this tour.
