What To Expect
The day starts by learning about the tragic and fascinating recent history of Cambodia. See the location where journalists camped out in 1975 on the eve of the Khmer Rouge takeover, and the ghostly building that has been left burnt-out and bullet-holed as it stood after the war.
Confront Cambodia's tragic past, on a guided tour of the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum, a former school which served as a Khmer Rouge torture centre. Then head out of the city to the Choueng Ek Memorial, where a pagoda made up of some 8,000 human skulls marks the site of one of the infamous Killing Fields.
Finish by sampling some interesting Khmer snacks and exploring how this recent history and politics continue to affect the lives of average Cambodian.

In no way can this tour be described as enjoyable, but significantly educational and thought provoking. It was about four and a half hours in length. Firstly we visited the prison which was pretty horrific and then met with one of the very few survivors. However, this cannot prepare your for the killing fields which has been pretty much preserved and is horrific in every way imaginable. I felt that I learned a lot about how terrifying this period in history was and realised that every family in Cambodia was impacted; no more so, than our excellent guide for the trip, Neang.
Well worth it

This was a fascinating tour which really brought home the horror of what happened in Cambodia during the 1970s. Our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable, and was able to answer all the questions the guests had, in relation to the tour and general knowledge about Cambodia. Her English was excellent, and she was very friendly which meant that it was easy to understand everything and chat with her about the history of the country. I would highly recommend this tour rather than visiting the sites alone.

A quintessential experience for all travelling to Phnom Penh

This is a harrowing, sobering, and necessary tour for any and all travelling to this marvelous city. Immersing yourself in the recent history truly gives one a perspective on the country in its present form - all locals you meet are absolutely kind and welcoming; to know this all happened so recently shows the true resolve of such wonderful, strong people. Our tour guide, Da, was absolutely wonderful for this tour. She has a quiet but courageous resolve, and her extensive knowledge will give you even more insight, pairing appropriately with the information already presented at the museum and killing fields. She was an absolute blessing to get to know and spend the morning with. Not for the faint of heart. The Cambodian people do not forget this event, but they are aiming their future towards a bright one; these locations give motivation to never let such horrors happen again in their country. I give the highest recommendation and would like to thank Da for her time and her heart.

Absolutely harrowing experience that I recommend to anyone visiting Phnom Penh. Our guide was very sweet and knowledgeable. It was heartbreaking hearing her childhood stories and having to experience what she does every day living with the past of the Cambodian Genocide. She gave a lot of helpful information in the bus rides and during the tour. As a solo traveler, it was great to be in a small group, and make a few friends during the tour.

The tour was extremely interesting and our guide Reya is knowledgeable and very friendly. Maybe a bit more information during the visits would be beneficial some of the exhibitions were showing a audioguide sign and it is a bit frustrating not to have any info. Overall a must do if you are in Phnom Penh

I was collected by my guide, Da, along with my fellow trip guests. The trip was, as I expected, very emotional. Da was brilliant, she was very informative and knowledgeable and also giving us our own time to wander around both the Genocide Museum and Killing Fields to have our own thoughts and process what we had seen. At the end of the trip, we went back into Phnom Penh to the market where we were treated to some local food, which was delicious. Da is a great ambassador for Phnom Penh and would choose her every time should I be back in Cambodia.

Yes Cambodia should not be about just the killing fields, and the Cambodia living arts dance was wonderful, but, you must take this tour. I would like to think its a lesson, but we havent learned a thing. But its important to learn history, and this tour gave me a chance to learn. Our guide, Da, was informative, honest and thoughtful.

We perform checks on reviews
You can only submit a review or rating of an experience to Viator if you were the person who made the booking through Viator. Before publication, each review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information for each of the following criteria: who, what, how, and when. If the system detects something that contradicts our publication criteria, the review is not published. When the system detects a problem with a review, it may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site. In some cases, we will also send you an email asking you to validate your review before it is published. All you need to do is click on the link provided in the email. After publication, our team checks each review reported to it as not meeting our publication criteria. Tripadvisor reviews that appear on the Viator site are subject to the same checks and moderation processes as set out above. It is not necessary to have booked an experience through Viator (or Tripadvisor) to submit a review of an experience to the Tripadvisor site.

Sorting, ranking, and search results
Viator wants to make your searches as relevant as possible. That’s why we offer many ways to help you find the right experiences for you.
On some pages, you can select how to sort the results we display and also use filter options to see only those search results that meet your chosen preferences. You’ll see explanations of what those sort options mean when you select them.
You’ll see some experiences with a “Promoted” badge, which means that the operators of those experiences have agreed to pay Viator more to have their experience highlighted.
If you see an Experience Award Winner label, the award is based on average review ratings, share of bookings with a review, and number of bookings through Viator over a 12-month period.
The importance of any one factor over any other in a sort order varies, and the balance is constantly being reviewed and adjusted. We’re always updating our systems and testing new ways to refine and improve your results to make them as relevant as possible to meet your needs.
