Sian Ka´an Tour from Playa del Carmen

We so looked forward to this tour especially because of the snorkeling! The trip was actually cancelled on January 13 and we were making other plans. The operator wrote me and told me that the 14th would work. I realize that the operator HAD to know that it would be too rough to snorkel and since that was the highlight of the trip it was a wash. Also importantly, the bulk of the trip is NOT IN THE PARK IT IS IN THE CAR. We were not at all made aware of this in the description or I would not have signed up in the first place. You ride in a bus to Tulum which depending where you are picked up can be an hour or possiblly more. Then you change to a van and are driven over very rough roads for about an hour with only 1 stop. The same on the way back therefore you might be spending 4 hours in all in a bus and van! The attraction is the boat in the lagoon. Although I was told there would be a place to change to swimsuits, the bathroom was very small and inadequate. No where to turn around, put your things down and certainly no locker provided. We should have been told to wear our bathing suits to begin with so that we would only have had to change into dry clothes on the return. There are many interesting sights in that area. Since snorkeling was not possible at the reef which is the highlight, why did the tour operator not take us to other interesting sights. We asked about flamingoes and manatees which are in the description but were told that these are on the other side of the lagoon. So since snorkeling was not posssible, why did they not at least take us there or to one of the gorgeous beaches in the area? We should have been honestly told in advance in the description to expect the bulk of the time driving . Also, they had to have known that snorkeling on the 14th would not be possible since we were told the trip had to be cancelled on the 13th for bad weather. Had I known about snorkeling being off and that the real bulk of the time would be spent in the car, I never would have gone on this trip. I feel we were not honestly dealt with. Not only did I spend $250.00 USD for both of us, but it was our last day. Had I known in advance this wouldn't work, we could have used the time to go to cenotes or any other of the beautiful spots in the area instead of this disappointing trip. It was the worst Viator experience we have had. Every other trip was great! I do not recommend this one!
