Wrong title of the tour

Seeing the picture of volcano in the advertisement and the word “active” is misleading. The volcano is dormant for a few weeks and there is nothing to see. Even couldn’t see the crater.

Complete waste of money

The excursion was a complete waste of money. If you have a car, avoid this excursion. You can easily drive there and hike on your own. Be sure to check the volcanic webcam for eruptions before you go. Without an eruption, all you'll see is black volcanic rock from previous eruptions and maybe a bit of white smoke.

She fully cooperated and out on a show

The volcano became visibly active while we were there so we felt lucky. Lava oozed down multiple lava valleys across the ridge from us in bright red display as we watched what had been gray-black solid turn fiery red. We learned when we returned to the van that the area was being evacuated due to the relative closeness to our path and another one. Timing was everything.

Clean, friendly but signage would help

Take note of your path while ascending. There are multiple directions to exit the mountain and no signs.

Amazing Volcano tour with Vjeran
Lian_W
, Aug 2021
Vjeran was our tour guide and he was amazing! He ensured everyone’s safety from the get go and was very accommodating to everyone’s hiking experience. He was very knowledgeable about the geography and guided us to the best routes. We had a great experience at the volcano and we couldn’t imagine how it could get much better than the tour with Vjeran.

A difficult hike for no guarantees

The overall experience of seeing the volcano and lava flows was very interesting. The hike to the top was very difficult and coming down was even harder. I think the description of the tour’s underestimated the difficulty. Lus you never know if there will be anything to see.

Amazing trip up the Volcano!

, Jul 2021
Arctic Adventures was on time and our guide Saga was super friendly and gave us lots of good information. Unfortunately, the volcano didn't erupt that day, but we learned the way up and we went at the end of our trip on our own. And we saw it! It was amazing! I wouldn't have known where to go or how to get there without Saga's help, so we were glad we booked this tour on the front end of the trip. Note: the hike is NOT the easiest! We made it up, but it's very steep and takes a bit of time.

Facsinating and unique experience
Aki_N
, Jul 2021
Our tour guide started by saying “this is the most dangerous place in Iceland right now”. Given the limitations of foggy weather, this was still an interesting visit to the sight of an active volcano. We saw lots of newly formed (and still warm) lava. Volcanic activity was evident through the steam rising through the fissures in the freshly formed rock. As the caldera was engulfed in fog, we did not have a chance to actually see the hot lava flowing.
