Departure Time

9:00 AM
Begin your full-day tour with pickup from your hotel in the Reykjavik area between 830am and 9am. Meet your guide and small group of no more than 19, and settle inside your comfortable, air-conditioned vehicle.

Then, set out into Iceland’s stark countryside on your 11-hour tour. On route, listen to intriguing facts about the country, hearing about its history, geology, and culture from your guide.

Head into UNESCO-listed Thingvellir National Park, one of Iceland’s famous Golden Circle sights. Learn how it lies within a belt of volcanic activity, and is home to the mid-Atlantic ridge, where the tectonic plates of North America and Eurasia face each other over a valley. Walk between the plates as you hear how they are gradually moving further apart, and savor the experience of straddling the two continents.

Take a detour from the Golden Circle to visit the Kerid (Kerið) crater, a 3,000-year-old crater filled with a lake. Peer into the 180-foot (55-meter) deep hollow, and admire the magical-looking blue lake cradled by the red- and green-colored slopes.

Visit the Geysir geothermal area, exploring the surreal-looking landscapes on foot. View the bubbling ponds and steam vents, and see the Geysir and Strokkur geysers, the latter shooting water up to 98 feet (30 meters) every five to 10 minutes.

Stop at the Gulfoss Waterfall, taking in this beautiful 105-foot (32-meter) fall, and then continue to Iceland’s famous Blue Lagoon, a geothermal spa surrounded by lava-sculpted countryside.

Head inside (own expense, with pre-booking of your admission ticket required) and change into your bathing suit. Then, enjoy a long soak in the warm, therapeutic waters, lying back in the steam and admiring the lava fields as you bathe.

After about two hours here, your tour finishes with a hotel drop-off in Reykjavik.

Mystical experience

David made the trip a 5-star experience. The cold, rain and whipping wind made everything more challenging, but in an odd way added to the mystical feeling. We loved the Kerid crater despite the winds prohibiting a walk around the edge and the Gullfoss Waterfall was equally as challenging but exciting and spectacular. But the best was the Blue Lagoon. It went beyond our expectations and was the highlight of our trip. David was able to get a wheelchair for my husband so he could enjoy relaxing near us and avoid the long walk (for him) back to the van. I would highly recommend David and this tour to anyone wanting to spend a great day exploring the Golden Circle highlights and in any weather conditions!

Great day tour taking in some of Iceland's most famous sites

Addi was a very personal and nice guide. Kerid Crater lake is definitely a highlight. Beautiful range of colors on the slopes down to the water itself. For best views, hike around the rim of the crater a bit to the right where the lake looks like a perfect circle below. Blue Lagoon was also spectacular; the 2 hours there went by way too fast. The operation at the Blue Lagoon is a well-oiled machine -- they clearly know how to process a lot of people efficiently. For those wondering, as we were, you never have to walk outside and be exposed to the cold air when entering from the locker rooms to the lagoon itself. There is a ramp leading from the heated main building that you walk down to enter the water, so you're already immersed in the warm lagoon waters before actually continuing along the ramp to the lagoon outside.

Fun full day excursion. We had the best tour guide, Addi. He let us stop to see some sweet Icelandic horses, and took us to see an additional waterfall not on the itinerary. Such a good day!
