Our guide was awesome. Pick up was smooth and just 45 min later we were at the base of the volcano. When we reached the top after a short hike a new fissure erupted and 1000’s of tons of lava started flowing towards us. It was incredible though I know for a fact we got VERY lucky. Guide said that he had been searching for anything orange for months. Even without our luck it still would have been worth it.

Pedro did a great job. Would definitely recommend this tour. Pedro did a great job also finding is at the Grandi Hotel. Thank so much.
Highly recommend this hike and Lorenzo

Lorenzo was a great guide and offered interesting observations about the volcano’s recent activity. The hike was great despite the weather and we will never forget the experience. It was fantastic.

Good outdoor adventure

The hike was long / hard, but not so bad that I wanted to turn around. The guide was very nice and was helpful with questions.

The weather was harsh but made the achievement of reaching the top even more exiting. The volcano had erupted the evening before so the view at the top with the lava flowing out was breathtaking.
Great experience

While the volcano was not active, it was still totally worth it. Beautiful surroundings and a walk on a lava field will be memorable for some time. James was a great guide with much knowledge about the volcano and the surrounding area. He kept a good pace, but was not pushy, gave time for pictures, helped take pictures, etc. Provided headlamps to make it back down the "mountain", as it was an evening hike. Would recommend taking a hiking pole as it was not provided

James was a great host: funny, knew his facts and lived to the expectations (and a little extra). Would definitely recommend to take this trip! 6PM is great as you walk up in the light but back in the dark.

When I booked, it said "if you can walk for 3 hours you are good for this trip". Problem is this trip was a 3 hours hike up and down the mountains that extended about 5 miles. Being 5 feet tall it was not a WALK but a JOG for 3 hours. I had to quit midway and go back by myself.

Active Fagradalsfjall volcano - must see!
, Sep 2021
8/31/2021 Our guide/driver picked us up on time at bus stop 6 in Reykjavik. He was an older fellow who was an authentic Icelandic mountain man. He was pleasant and was careful to not park in the muddy areas at entrance C. Fortunately, it did not rain on us even though the low clouds looked heavy. We started our hike towards the active volcano, Fagradalsfjall volcano at an easy pace. It was nice that our guide wore neon yellow so we could spot him. He told us that if we could not keep up the pace, that we could hike slowly or turn back to the bus. I lagged behind most of the time as I have short legs and I am a slow hiker. The first part of the hike was easy. And we could easily see the lava field that was black and still smoking. The base of the first mountain was very steep. This was a tough challenge. But since I took it slow and zig-zagged across the mountain I got to the top and found field of broken rocks and more hills/mountains to climb! But I could get a glimpse of the active Fagradalsfjall volcano with slight red glow of lava. We continued on to get as close as possible to the volcano. I learned just a few days before that the volcano appeared to be less active. But the night before our hike, someone said that the volcano was active again. So we were hopeful we would see more. And we were not disappointed! As we got closer to the volcano we saw more activity and the volcano top changing before our eyes more red streams emerged. And we could smell it! At the time we were leaving we could see a new stream of red lava appeared spouting high from the side! The hike back was easier as it was mostly down hill… which was not without its challenges of loose sharp rocks. Good hiking shoes are highly recommended. Great adventure!! Must do if you can!

Amazing views

Amazing experience with tour guide James. We walked at our own pace and he would check up on slower hikers. Would highly recommend if you like hiking up hills and great views.
