A great experience, highly recommend

It’s worth knowing that equipment for this trip is supplied as you are not allowed to bring any of your own boots etc that have been in contact with other horses. The set up is nice and this tour involves meeting the horses and information about the breed etc. We were able to hang out with the horses and take lots of photos. They are really friendly which is particularly good if you aren’t used to horses. We were then able to ride them in a small paddock for a short while. As we were all competent riders our guide instructed us on how to achieve the extra gaits, the pace and tolt that is specific to this breed. Throughly enjoyed it!

What a great unique experience this was! So much fun meeting the horse’s, seeing how well cared for and loved they are, and the icing on the cake was riding them. Such sweet, kind, loving animals. A must for horse people and non horsey people as well. Icelanders are committed to keeping the breed pure.

My partner had a sprained ankle and was still recovering so unfortunately we couldn’t do the horse riding, but we did do the horse experience at the stable where we were able to visit with the most beautiful island I’ve horses. We were first introduced to three groups of horses then allowed to pet and brush them. Then later we let them out into the snowy field and took beautiful pictures as we interacted, fed, and pet them. We then were given the opportunity to do a short ride each in a contained enclosed field area and test out all of the Icelandic gates. This was truly an AMAZING experience and I would do it again. If you want to experience the beauty of the Icelandic horses up close, this is the best way! Our instructor was also amazing and very friendly and informative!

Meet the horses tour

We loved this experience. The IsHestar Riding Centre is a short drive from Reykjavik (or they can pick you up). We were there on a day that wasn't busy, so after meeting the beautiful Icelandic horses, we were treated to a 15 min. ride. They have other ride packages that take you out for several hours and match to your skill level. We were able to spend time with the horses, feed them, take loads of photos and then have a hot chocolate. The guide was so sweet and friendly, and was very knowledgeable. I highly recommend this experience and this horse centre. Great for all ages.

An excellent morning getting to know these beautiful creatures. We were able to get up close to these beauties whilst grooming and feeding them - hearing their stories & meeting them all! We also got the option to ride one without pressure. The tour was incredibly passionate and a heart felt introduction. A great alternative to the horse riding tours <3

My daughter is allergic to horses but this is a great experience for her to meet up close and riding horses for a short period and feeding the horses. We enjoy it thoroughly. The staff is very friendly and everyone had fun.

My kids didn't want to do a full ride but wanted to get to see the horses up close and personal. This was the BEST! Rosie was our guide and she was so great to the kids and we had so much fun. It was up close and personal!

Good intro

Perfect introduction if no previous experience with horses. Only complaint is that we had to arrive in time to view instruction film with riders going out for several hour ride, and then just sat and waited for at least 30 minutes to allow them to mount up and depart before we could start our visit.

Great first time horseback riding tour

As the title states, it was my first time riding a horse. So happy it got to be an Icelandic horse. You will first meet your horse which is selected for you based on experience and other factors. The guides were very helpful and constantly checking in with us on our comfort with the horse and giving useful tips. It is a lovely ride out to a lava field where you dismount the horse and have pictures taken with your horse. All of the gear is included. At the end of the tour, you will help take off the saddle and bridal. You really get to bond with your horse, mine was Utta!
