The rocky landscape around Reykjavik tells a dramatic visual story of Iceland’s volcanic past. Begin your aerial adventure at Reykjavik Domestic Airport, where you’ll meet your experienced pilot and receive a brief safety orientation. Climb aboard a helicopter and buckle up either in the front next to your pilot or in one of the back passenger seats.

As you rise into the air and make your way east of the capital, watch all signs of civilization disappear as the rocky, lunar-like landscape comes into view. See evidence of former volcanic eruptions in the dramatic craters and rocky lava fields below, and learn about the area’s still-active geothermal properties as you watch steam rising from solfataras (volcanic vents) and bubbling mud pits.

Get a breathtaking aerial perspective on some of Iceland’s most famous natural attractions, including spouting geysers and the hissing lava fields of Hengill Geothermal area. Fly over several clean energy power plants, and listen as your pilot explains how the movement of tectonic plates below the earth’s surface releases geothermal energy that is harnessed and used to power a large portion of homes in Iceland.

After your flight, return to solid ground at the Reykjavik airport and bid farewell to your pilot.

A fabulous trip to the Geothermal mountain sides with our pilot Jon. We flew in an 8 man copter and there were great views from every seat (you sit in 2 x rows of 4 - ask if you can join the pilot in the front - another bloke on our trip did and flew half the second half of the trip in the front!)

This tour was incredible. The area that we landed in was very picturesque. During the trip I proposed to my girlfriend of nine years. Our pilot Eggert was very knowledgeable of the island and anything that we had questions about. I would definitely fly with Nordurflug again!

Very professional operation, expertly narrated and flown by very experienced pilot. Great way to see the sights from a unique perspective -- from above and then up close. First flight for my son, who loved it. I have a couple of thousand flight hours as an Army flight surgeon and I could tell these guys knew what they were doing. Great!

Booked geothermal tour but bad weather so had volcano tour instead. INCREDIBLE experience. FAB staff. AWESOME views. We were the only people on our flight and on the volcano we landed on. We loved having a snowball fight on top of the volcano and swooping over the sea. BEST TRIP EVER

Absolutely incredible tour - Iceland is a country that must be seen from the air! The tour included some of the most spectacular scenery I've ever seen, and included a stop at a hot spring high up in the mountains. Wonderful experience. The pilot was so professional - he made flying the helicopter look easy! Can highly recommend this to anyone that wants to see the real beauty of this magnificent country.
