Day trip from San Jose to Wildlife Refuge La Paz Waterfall Gardens

Amazing tour of the La Paz Falls! The falls were spectacular and our tour guide Ronnie did a fantastic job explaining the different types of plants and wildlife at La Paz. Also entertained us with Costa Rica history and fun facts on our way to the falls. We had a small group of 8 people, highly recommend doing this tour!

Great day out from San Jose. We had knowledgeable guide who told us all the facts about the places we visited. We visited the coffee fields, went to the top of Poas volcano and saw the crater, a bit of wine tasting and ended up at La Paz. Lovely gardens with animals and beautiful waterfalls. Lunch was good too. Would recommend this trip, really enjoyed it

My fiancee and I had a wonderful time on this tour. We booked it the night before and were able to go on the tour early the next morning. We were also fortunate enough to go on the tour by ourselves with our two tour guides Tonio the driver and Edgar the tour guide. We were picked up at our hotel at 7:30am and driven through to Alajuela to learn some history of Costa Rica. Our first stop was in a park that featured a statue of their hero Juan Santamaria. Edgar taught us about the history and about Costa Rican culture, living, land, terrain, cities etc. Next, we stopped at a local coffee shop and were taught about Costa Rican gourmet coffee and saw some of their coffee plants where they grow the coffee. We also had the opportunity to buy some coffee and take in the amazing views at this beautiful little shop. Next, we were driven to another little shop that offered complimentary strawberry wine and fresh cheese. It is also a souvenir shop so you can buy some items if you like. I recommend trying the fresh strawberries with condensed milk and chocolate syrup. It's so good. Next, we drove through the mountains on winding roads to La Paz Waterfall. The drive there is so beautiful because you take in all the natural beauty of Costa Rica and see the casitas where people live, farmland, volcanoes etc. It is gorgeous! La Paz Waterfall was awesome, but be prepared to walk a lot and up and down lots of stairs. You'll get to hike through the rainforest, see the bird aviary, butterfly exhibits, snake exhibits, bug exhibits, cat exhibits, frog exhibits and monkey exhibits. You'll also get to see La Paz Waterfall from a variety of different viewpoints. Midway through the tour, you'll get to have a delicious buffet lunch. Our tour guide Edgar was a great source of information, was fun, friendly, easy to talk to and answered our many questions we had. Overall, my fiancee and I had a wonderful time and would definitely recommend this tour.

Our guide was beyond amazing. We were comfortable and informed the entire day. The trip exceeded my expectations and was a day I’ll never forget.

La Paz Waterfall Gardens is a lovely introduction to the natural wonders of Costa Rica. Our guides Oscar and Edgar and driver Luis were friendly, informative and patient. There was a relaxed pace and I never felt rushed through any part of the experience. I hear it can be busy on the weekends so try to plan a weekday visit.

This was a great tour. Our wonderful guide Oscar picked us up and first took us to a family owned coffee farm where we tried local coffee, toured the farm and learned about the process of making coffee. From there we had a great deive through different climates to the La Paz Waterfall Gardens. The gardens have a rescued animals such as Sloths and Jaguars and a couple miles of trails out into the lush rainforest where you can see five different waterfalls. The day includes an all you can eat buffet of traditional Costa Rican food. The day was great and I highly recommend it!

Stunning roaring waterfalls, the wild animals, the beautiful garden is worth the visit..It’s a tropical paradise just like you see in pictures.

We only got 1 day free to explore San Jose. We chose this Wildlife Refuge and waterfalls to get a little taste of the Costa Rican wildlife and nature. The Refuge is incredibly well design, kept, and harmonized with nature. The falls were beautiful and there were several trails to see them from all angles. My husband and I were extremely satisfied. It is also great for photographers, and my husband happens to be one.
