See the blue domed churches

First: a word about Greece. The landscapes are stunningly beautiful: coastlines, mountains, blue water. You will walk among 2,500-year-old archaeological sites. The food is every bit as good as you imagine it will be. But the best part of Greece is its people. I had not one bad interaction with a local Greek; they were consistently gracious, friendly, helpful. This country deserves to be on your bucket list. Greece has something like 38 million visitors (in a country with 11 million residents) in 2019. That number is less than half right now as they recover from the pandemic. Now is the time to go to Greece! Bring your swimsuit, appetite, and camera. It’s the trip of a lifetime. We booked a private customizable tour through Viator. The tour guide meets you at the palm tree as you exit the cable cars. She was patiently holding a sign with my name, it was very easy to link up with her. You have a customizable private tour awaiting. Our party was in a comfortable minibus. You must see the village of Oia pronounced (Eee-Yah). This is where you will see the beautiful domed churches with Aegean Sea backdrop. Take your selfie along with hundreds of other tourists. It was crowded but people were polite and understood everyone needed their moment to take a photo. We also visited the Three Bells of Fira church. From this vantage point, you can see the caldera. Santorini is a volcanic island. Appox. 3,500 years ago, the volcano exploded with such intensity that it broke the island into three different islands. We swam at the black sand beach and had a traditional Greek lunch at a local restaurant. The tour guide was very flexible as I asked to skip certain locations while spending more time at others. You have the option to visit a winery, wine museum, four towns and two beaches. They got us back to the village of Fira to catch the cable car back to the ship. There are plenty of photo shots, restaurants, and shops in the Fira. A note about the cable cars: tickets are six Euros per person. The ride is only about 1-2 minutes, but the line could get long if there are multiple cruise ships visiting Santorini. The cable car is the only practical way to get from sea level to the top of the island and back. Do not take the donkeys, it’s unsafe for you and cruel for them. Cruise ship tenders are waiting at the bottom of the cable cars.

Our guide, Stephano, was exceptional and provided great facts and information on the island. He customized the tour to our exact interests, plus allows for much time spent in Oia village. He also acted as our photographer at many of the spectacular sites. Very much recommend!

This tour was awesome. Our guide, Danai, was phenomenal. She was punctual to meet us and she had great knowledge of Santorini. In addition, both she and the driver were personable and friendly. The transportation was by van, which was clean and comfortable. We did 8 tours on this trip and this was by far the best. I would absolutely recommend this tour as a MUST DO!

10/5/19 Santorini Day Trip

Our tour guide Stephano promptly met us once we exited the tram. After we discussed our proposed itinerary Stephano made some recommendations and we were on our way. Our 1st stop was to the Venetsanos Winery for a wine tasting visit. Stephano called ahead and we were promptly seated with an incredible vista. We wanted to be at the Santorini Brewing Company by 4:00 and we arrived at 4:01!! We drove through some older villages, stopped at a beach all the while Stephano providing narrative and insight into each stop. We timed our visit to be in Oia for sunset and Stephano guided us through the maze before and after sunset. He then quickly guided us back to our van and back to Fira. Overall, this was an excellent day trip with a knowledgeable, witty and humorous tour guide.

The only way to do it surely .......

Took the fast ferry to Santorini and were met at the busy port by our guide Stelios and his driver. The tour of the island took about 5 hours and included all the famous sights and additional wine tastings, quiet villages, the hilltop monastery and a light lunch with the best view on the island. As well as the expected background information and history he was happy to talk about economics, mythology, the history of the EU and life in general. In this he was humorous and droll and entertaining. A really nice day out from Crete, despite the distance. The slow ferry/coach and 2 sites alternative hardly bears thinking about in comparison. Well worth the extra money (3 adults).

Excellent guide! We are in the 5th day in Santorini now and still using insight info from our guide. We asked for the best time to take this tour and went from 12:00 to 18:00 (extended hours). Thank you and good luck!

Our tour was amazing. Stelios, our guide, and George, the driver, took us all over Santorini in a private van. We visited everything we wanted to see and more. We even stopped for dinner at a local restaurant by the sea and had fish caught fresh that day. I would highly recommend this tour.
