Departure Time

9:00 AM
Meet a driver at your hotel by the Dead Sea, then travel to the first stop of the day, the historic city of Madaba. Find out how Madaba became renowned for its bright mosaic floors, and stop in the Saint George Orthodox Church to see a Byzantine map of the Middle East from the 6th century.

From Madaba, continue to Mount Nebo, an arid ridge with sweeping views across the countryside. This is where Moses is believed to have seen the “promised land,” and the ruins of a Byzantine church have been discovered on the mountain’s highest point.

The final stop of the day is Um er-Rasas, a UNESO-listed archeological site that was founded as a Roman military camp in the 3rd century. Tour the site with a local guide, visiting some of the 16 churches, remains of the Roman, Byzantine, and Early Muslim periods, and the pair of square towers, or stylites, where monks would isolate themselves for periods of prayer and fasting. Following your time at Um er-Rasas, begin the return trip to the Dead Sea, where this tour concludes with drop-off at your hotel.
