Amazing Day trip to Salzburg!

From the hotel pick up to the helpfulness of our driver/guide Peter I had an amazing time. With our detours along the way to small lake town and visiting the town of St Gilden with its Christmas market and the convenience of travelling in a smaller van can be experienced as we were able to stop in the middle of the village and not across the main road and walk a distance as tourist in big busses were doing. Our Guide Peter shared many interesting and unique facts about Vienna, and the towns we passed by. In Salzburg we had a local guide take us on a walking tour for an hour showing the Mirabelle Palace, birth place of Mozart, the Christmas markets and informations on attractions we can do on our own after the walking tour as we had 3 hours to ourselves after. Time flew by and before you know it it’s time to leave Salzburg. The drive back was smooth and we were dropped off at our hotels or accommodations. A special thank you to Peter for his kind hospitality.

The highlight of my trip to Austria

I would encourage visitors to take a day trip to Salzburg. I went with my sister in August 2019. We enjoyed a lovely tour of the Lake District and saw amazing views of this alpine region. Peter at White Alligator Tours was very knowledgeable and took us to the best view points. We had another guide at Salzburg for 2 hours. This guide has been a tour guide since 1971 and had so much historical and trivial information about this city. We saw the Mirabella Gardens, town square, chain bridge, several churches (many sites associated with the Sound of Music). The Cathloic church were the Sound of Music was filmed, offers bottled holy water (donation required) for special keepsakes/gifts. We had a few hours to kill at the end and had a beautiful lunch at a local restaurant. The trip to and from was in a comfortable, air-conditioned bus. We appreciated the hotel pick up and drop off. We also liked the small-group experience. Overall, this was a wonderful day trip that made many happy memories.

Honestly, it's a long drive there and back. Driver was very good and Salzburg was spectacular, my only wish was that we had more time there.

From the beginning to the end of the tour we experienced a day we will forever remember. Out tour guide provided us with interesting facts on the sights when we were leaving and returning to Vienna and was polite, knowledgeable and very friendly. On the way to Salzburg we toured the Lake region of Austria which was breathtaking - a must see if you get the chance. After arriving in Salzburg we met our other tour guide Johann, who gave us a 1 hour walking tour through the streets of Salzburg, including the Old Town. His local insights and friendly nature made the day even better. The size of the tour group made the tour even easier for us. We would highly recommend the tour to anyone visiting Vienna that wants to travel to Salzburg for a day. Thanks Peter and Johann for making our day one to remember forever!
